Youth Movement In Arizona

Boys to Men
2/23/2022 • Trevor Sifton

Arizona has one of the most interesting teams in the league. With a solid core group of veterans like Captain Aleksander Barkov and Assistant Captains Roman Josi and Evander Kane, this team is probably more well known for the youth movement beginning to take shape in the desert.

With young guns like Andrei Svechnikov and Dante Fabbro already playing meaningful minutes with the club, we look even further to next season where we expect lots of new faces to make impacts for their club.

Players like Jake Bean, Kieffer Bellows, Boris Katchouk, Jonah Gdjovich, and MacKenzie Entwistle are all expected to fight for roster spots next season and we haven’t even mentioned the two brightest names expected to play for the Coyotes. Defencemen Evan Bouchard and goaltender Jake Oettinger (Trevor Siftons first pick as GM of the team) are both expected to be on the roster on a full-time basis.

“It’s incredibly exciting”, said the GM. “When I first took over this team, I immediately noticed the lack of goaltending in the future and immediately addressed the situation by drafting Oettinger 17th overall. Our patience with him and allowing him to develop should greatly help us next season and beyond”.

Evan Bouchard will be expected to play top four minutes alongside either Roman Josi or Ivan Provorov after the team moves on from Torey Krug.

The Coyotes with have to continue to be patient with Brendan Brisson and Matty Beniers, who are still likely a few years away from cracking the roster. It’s no secret that the GM has been aggressively pursuing a 2C for their team, but given how patient the GM was when drafting Oettinger, we wouldn’t be surprised if he waited for one of those two to make the team given the strength of team control.
