In front of an arena packed with their own fans, the Utah Hockey Club have defeated the Minnesota Wild after a tough battle across six games. With how physical this series was expected to be, both teams were heavily penalized, combining for 62 penalties across the six games, making special teams an important part.
Utah led the Wild in both special teams categories, capitalizing on 6/28 (21.4%), to the Wild’s 6/34 (17.6%), and then killed 28/34 (82.4%) to the Wild’s 22/28 (78.6%).
Aleksander Barkov led all forwards in scoring, collecting two goals and five assists, while Colton Parayko led all defencemen with a matching two goals and five assists as well. Elias Pettersson was the leading scorer for the Wild, scoring four goals (led the series) and two assists.
Jake Oettinger out dueled opposing netminder, Logan Thompson, with a GAA of 2.16 and a SV% of 0.9128 to Thompsons 2.32 and 0.9194.
Utah now has a few extra days to prepare for Chicago as we await the conclusion of CGY/STL and VAN/SJ series.
