Yesterday, the Washington Capitals acquired Alexander Radulov in free agency. He signed a two year contract with us at $6,900,000 AAV. We are very excited to welcome Alex to the team, and ideally, he’ll be a key part of our top 6 this upcoming season. Last season, Radulov was an essential part of the Los Angeles Kings’ success, putting up 64 points (27 goals, 37 assists) in 82 games. He has improved in each of his seasons of the DCHL, from 37 points in 2017-18, 40 points in 2018-19, 57 points in 2019-20 and 64 points last season. We hope that he can continue this trend and improve upon last year’s totals.
Along with Radulov, the Capitals are happy to welcome Carter Verhaeghe to the team. Verhaeghe was acquired in a deal that sent Drake Batherson over to the Dallas Stars alongside Washington’s 5th round pick in the 2022 Entry Draft. We envision Verhaeghe as a key part of our team, and that he’ll carve out a role in the top 6. Verhaeghe has yet to have success in the DCHL, but we believe that this upcoming season will be his breakout season.
Drake Batherson has developed wonderfully, and we would like to thank him for his time on the Capitals farm team, and we wish him the best of luck with his new team.
Expect more re-signings and acquisitions to come, as free agency has only just begun!
