Making Moves

2/14/2021 • Marc Gaudreault

Good morning/afternoon 2HYPEToronto-ites,

Today we start off our incoherent ramblings with some RFA news. The extensions involve players that have yet to cement their spot in the lineup, however show enough promise to be big pieces in the rebuild to end all rebuilds.

The first Signing, Sebastian Aho. The swedish D-man has yet to suit up for the leafs, however there is alot of promise for this young guy. He is signing a 3 year, $678,600 contract , which leaves him as an RFA when its up.

Secondly is Evgeny Svechnikov. As a late bloomer, he leaves alot left to desire in offense, and the hope here is his development takes a huge leap and he can join the big club sooner rather than later. He signed a shiny new deal worth a solid $818,181 for 4 years.

And finally for the RFA signings, Adam Werner. The young backup has proven that he can come in and win games. On a very thin leafs team, Werner came in and started 5 games, won 4 of them, with a SV% of 92.5% and a GAA of 2.25. Some of the teams he helped beat include: Tampa Bay, Colorado, Arizona and Carolina. This recent stretch netted him a 4 yr deal worth 1.56M a season.

The leafs have done well during this recent stretch, Teddy Blueger still leading the team offensively. This weekend they face the tough Sharks, a game where Varlamov will find himself starting, after a long stint for Werner. Lets hope VARLY can keep the win train rolling.
