Hurricanes acquire Rasmus Dahlin

Hurricanes acquire Dahlin for Barzal, Liljegren and a 1st round pick.
10/14/2023 • Mike Giletto

Just two games into the season and the Hurricanes make a splash, acquiring defenseman Rasmus Dahlin from the Boston Bruins.

Dahlin is an elite defenseman and posted 44 points with the Golden Knights last season, and has 1 point in two games with the Bruins this season.

Going the other way to Boston is long time Hurricane Mathew Barzal, Timothy Liljegren, and a 2024 1st round pick. Barzal is second all time in Hurricanes franchise history in games played (412), assists (226), and points (362).

Trading Barzal opens up a forward roster spot, and Jack Drury has been called up to take his roster spot. Drury played 11 games last season for the Canes and scored 4 points.

In Saturday’s loss to the Kings, Charlie Coyle got injured and will miss the next two weeks with a sprained ankle. Adam Beckman has also been called up to the Hurricanes and will make his DCHL debut tomorrow against the Anaheim Ducks.

Safe to say tomorrow’s lineup will look very different for the Hurricanes as Dahlin, Drury, Beckman are in, and Barzal, Liljegren, and Coyle are out.
