E.7 Dec 26

Welcome to the holiday edition of what's hot/what's not.
On this beautiful boxing day, we'll visit the most anticipated hockey event of the year, the departure of Gm Pregent and the arrival of Gm Wilson. We'll also visit the carolina hurricanes 2nd line who might be the best 2nd trio of the league.

What's not Hot but also hot: Change of ownership in New york

Gm Pregent has decided to step down as gm of the rangers.  Mental health should always be priority and it takes real guts to admit such things and even more guts to actually do something about it.  We're all wishing you the best Dan.

Gm Pregent leaves behind a team that isnt ready to compete but has some solid pieces ready for the rebuilt. Seth Jarvis looks like a stud, and the defensive core looks set for the future with the likes of Sandin, Addison, Whitecloud and Wallinder.  With Mcmichael and Lapierre on top of that, the future is bright.   In comes Gm Wilson,  with experience in the junior league with the Buffalo Sabres (10-28-1) lol, and left the new  Florida Panthers gm with a team that sits at  (8-27-2) lol, he know how to run a bad roster lolol.   Jokes aside, Gm Wilson already has a plan for the future of the rangers which is great to hear for a team that needs exactly that.   He has a couple of valuable assets in Brandon Tanev (99 chk, 91def) at a very low AAV for a couple of years and owns one of the best goalie in the league in Jacob Markstrom.  Look for the Rangers to be very active till the deadline and keep the action going in the draft and during free agency.

What's Hot: Carolina's 2nd line

When you look at Carolina's roster, Point and Barzal are the main guys, but its the other guys carrying this team. The 2nd line of Toffoli, Neiderreiter and Trocheck are destroying the league.   Trochek and Toffoli are carrying the load statistically sitting 2nd and 3rd in league scoring but all 3 are pulling their weight. Neiderreiter has an impressive +20 rating and combined, the trio has a +62 rating. That's a mile ahead of their "top line" who sit at a combined -5.   If Gm Giletto can fix his top line and keep his 2nd performing as they are,  we might have the top team in the metro right here in Raleigh.

What's Hot:  World Juniors

Everyone's favorite event is upon us, the World juniors in Edmonton.  This is the tournament where everyone can watch their country, their prospects and their future picks perform.  As a hockey fan, there isnt much more you can ask for.   We already have Seattle's Owen Power with an hat trick, Ottawa's Cole Perfetti with 3 helpers, and future top 2 pick in Matvei Mishkov with 2 goals.   Detroit's prospect Simon Edvinsson was impressive with 1 goal and 2 helpers while Anaheim's 6th overall Alexander Holtz had 1 goal and 1 assist.    Gm Downs, in Ottawa, will be glued to the tv with a whopping 9 prospects at the tournament.   On a personal note, my eyes will be on Bedard and Mishkov, they could very well be the next Crosby/Ovechkin duo.

Thanks for tuning in for the holiday edition
