Creating a Culture

Naming Our Captains for 2022-2023
8/13/2022 • Justin Levergneux

With the rebuild in full swing in Tampa the intent behind the moves has shifted from unloading top talent to forming what will be the new culture and identity of the future Lightning franchise. In year one of this rebuild GM Levergneux has pushed to bring in several players that he believes encompass the ideals of heart & soul players, who leave it all on the ice. Levergneux has created a group of defensive minded checking forwards who will be a pain in the side of every team facing the Lightning this season. Combined with a stringent defensive minded D-core, the Lightning are planning to play spoilers for all teams in their Atlantic division. This year's Lightning squad may not win many games, but they will never leave a contest without putting up a fight.

Key Players Added to Push this new culture include:

Austin Watson, Key Stats: 89 CHK, 84 DEF

Nic Dowd, Key Stats: 82 CHK, 88 DEF

P-E Bellemare, Key Stats: 87 FO, 88 DEF

Dustin Brown, regarded as a hard to play against and a leader of men

Brendan Gallagher, small stature, but plays as big as anyone on the ice

Parker Kelly, hits everything that moves, Key Stats: 83 CHK

Dylan Demelo, Ian Cole, Kris Russel, all over 81 DEF

Joel Edmundson, Key stats: 82 CHK, 84 DEF
