The magical offseason for GM Flax Laplante continues. After an exciting draft and a couple trades acquiring goalies, The Islanders acquired the biggest fish in the pond. Russian Superstar Artemi Panarin!! They gave up a king random to have him but the management is very happy that they got their guy. Here is the summary of the off season
New York start by sending defenseman Alex Pietrangelo to San Jose for Thomas Chabot and Vitek Vanecek, also Chris Driedger who was taking by Seattle.
Then they send their other top defenseman 13mil man Roman Josi and Ilya Mikehev to Florida for Josh Anderson, Philip Danault which both are still on rfa terms.
Then traded Jordan Staal , Nick Bonino , 1st, 2nd, 3rd round picks for essentialy the 8th overall pick of the draft, Anthony Beauvillier and Joonas Donskoi.
It doesnt stop there, Isles general manager very active. Traded newly acquiring Josh Anderson and Kaspari Kapanen to St-Louis for the 6th overall pick and William Nylander.
Then Seattle happened. He took one of my goalie. Chris Driedger.
Had to make a move for a goalie to stay relevant this year.
NYI trade prospect joakim kondelik, alex galchenyuk, 6th overall acquired earlier, a 3rd 4th and 5th round picks for Varlamov and Subban both retained 50%. This gave the Islanders what they needed the most 92 overall starting goaltender.
At the draft, we still had our 8th overall pick who we wanted to draft a goalie with it. Bryce phone call came a second after the 7th pick selection was made. He wanted the pick badly because mason mctavish was still available.
NYI traded him 8th overall for 18th overall, 56overall and Mike Smith
Bryce called again at the end of the 17th overall pick. NYI then re-traded the 18th overall to Bryce for 25th overall and a 2022 2nd pick.
GM Flax Laplante thought his team was final until we had a discusion with the Golden Nights. We been trying to acquire Panarin since his departure from San Jose with no luck. We came to a deal finally which sends youngster newly acquired William Nylander and NYI 1st 2022 for Artemi Panarin and VGK 3rd 2022! Flax said you pay for stars when you can have them. 3 years at 6m is a hell of a deal for a top 5 player in the league!
