Utah and Chicago will face off in the second round of the 2025 playoffs for the first time in DCHL history. This year, the teams faced off against each other a total of four times, where Chicago dominated Utah, outscoring them 18-7 and going 4-0-0.
Chicago’s Tyler Seguin was the leading scorer in the regular season, collecting one goal and five assist. Alexander Georgiev started all four games for the Blackhawks, where Jake Oettinger was 0-2-1 and David Rittich lost his only start against them. Georgiev managed a GAA of 1.75 and a SV% of 0.932, while Oettinger averaged a GAA of 4.00 and a SV% of 0.895.
Since the 2016-17 season, Utah/Arizona and Chicago have faced off 30 times and Chicago has completely dominated in their meetings. Chicago holds a record of 21-8-1, scoring 111 goals, while Utah/Arizona have gone 9-18-3, scoring only 74 goals.
The keys for Utah in this series will be for Jake Oettinger to continue his solid play as he has in the playoffs and for captain Aleksander Barkov to set up offensively, collecting only a single goal against the Blackhawks in the regular season.
Will Utah be able to exorcise their demons in a best of seven series, or will they continue to be the younger brother to the Blackhawks?
