Trade Deadline Hot List

DCHL Trade Deadline teams to watch
2/16/2022 • Jean Levergneux

I went trough each team that could be sellers as well as the teams that put players on the trade block (Facebook and site) and I must say there wasn’t much to look at on some teams.

Most of the TOP UFA’s are on playoff teams or teams fighting for a playoff spot, many of the UFA’s on non playoff teams are over paid underperforming players.  Sorry if I offend anyone, but I’m looking forward to you guys proving me wrong.

Below are 5 teams with a list of players that could potentially be traded before the trade deadline.

These players have either been put on the trade block, are UFA’s or are attractive players that playoff teams might want to acquire.

Philadelphia

I’m not sure why the Flyers GM would want to put these top playoff performers on the block just before the playoffs, but I guess that’s why the Flyers are perennial cup contenders.

These are 2 players that could definitely help a contender go on a long playoff run, but the price is probably expensive.  The Flyers GM has already said he’s willing to retain on Oshie for the right price, so if you come knocking back up the brinks truck and get ready to pay up!

TJ Oshie, Flyers, 87 OV, $10,200,00 UFA

Lars Eller, Flyers, 83 OV, $5,200,00 UFA

Anaheim

These are 2 players that could help a team, but my guess is that the Ducks GM will need to retain 50% salary to maximize his return on these guys.

I see multiple picks including a 2nd or a pick and a prospect going the Ducks way for this GM to part with these guys.

Paul Stastny, Ducks, 83 OV, $7,970,000 UFA

Yanni Gourde, Ducks, 82 OV, $5,838,333 UFA

Montreal

The Habs have quite a few guys on the block and some of these guys might not get traded until the summer when some teams have more money to spend.

A player like Malkin might get traded at the draft or a week into FA when teams that thought would get a top player end up striking out.

The 2 Hab most likely to get traded at the deadline are Cizikas and Reilly.  Cizikas is a good defensive centre that thrive in the playoffs and playoff teams need depth on D for long playoff runs.

I don’t see any tackers for Zucker and Price, these contracts are just too hefty for anyone to take a chance on the return.

Casey Cizikas, MTL, 81 OV, $4,866,667 UFA

Mike Reilly, MTL, 80 OV, $1,680,000 2 years

Evgeni Malkin, MTL, 90 OV, $16,255,000 3 years

Carey Price, MTL, 90 OV, $10,280,000 3 years

Jason Zucker, MTL, 83, OV, $7,200,000 2 years

Ottawa

The Sens GM will get calls for these 3 guys.  Big Joe is a veteran that can help a team going on a playoff run and Rinne can still steal a game from time to time, the money might be an issue but I’m confident that the Sens GM will find a way to make it work.

Killorn might be the gem that gets the best return at the trade deadline and again if the Sens GM is willing to retain or take some money back he will improve on the offers coming his way for Killorn.

Joe Thornton, Ott, 80 OV, $3,500,000 UFA

Pekka Rinne, Ott, 88 OV, $7,220,000 UFA

Alex Killorn, Ott, 85 OV, $5,890,000 2 years

Vancouver

The Canucks have 3 veteran forwards that any playoff team would want to add to their roster.

The question is what’s the asking price and can they make the money work.  It doesn’t look like the Canucks can retain ($7M in current retentions) so the Canuck will have to take some money back (UFA money) if he wants to maximize his return.

Ryan Getzlaf, 84 OV, $4,500,000 2 years

Dustin Brown, 83 OV, $3,300,000 2 years

Nick Foligno, 82 OV, $4,476,667 UFA
