Marco Rossi, C
Drafted 5th overall in 2020
Currently playing: Minnesota Wild, NHL
In 4 games this season, Rossi has yet to record a point with the NHL’s Minnesota Wild. This is hardly a knock on his own game, as Rossi showed chemistry in the pre-season with Kaprizov, Zuccarello, etc. and yet has been sheltered on the bottom line for the first 4 games of the season despite playing better overall with limited ice time than Ryan Hartman. That being said, we’re thrilled to see Rossi getting a look in the NHL and we hope to see his ice time increase so that he can really prove how good he is.
Elmer Soderblom, W
Drafted 136th overall in 2020
Currently playing: Detroit Red Wings, NHL
Soderblom has quickly taken to the NHL. After scoring his first goal in his first NHL game, he has been pointless since. That being said, when it comes to the “eye test,” he has passed with flying colours. Aside from captain Dylan Larkin and David Perron, Elmer has been easily their best player. The DCHL Capitals are hoping that he starts to really use his size to his advantage, but we are thrilled with the progress he has made, especially for a 5th round pick.
Brennan Othmann, W
Drafted 26th overall in 2021
Currently playing: Flint Firebirds, OHL
Also known as Brenna Othmann in the DCHL, Othmann has been stellar since being drafted. After finishing the 2021-22 season where he finished 2nd in goals and 7th in points in the OHL, he is currently on pace to repeat this season, currently leading the league in goals and placed 2nd for points with 8-9–17 in 10 games. We’ve been very happy with his progression and are excited to see him continue to develop with Flint.
Jordan Dumais, W
Drafted 83rd overall in 2022
Currently playing: Halifax Mooseheads, QMJHL
Drafted using the pick acquired from the infamous Jarry trade, Dumais has been lighting up the Q, placing 2nd for assists and 7th in points. We'd like to see Jordan add some strength, but it's hard to be upset with how he's performed so far. He's been great in the Q and we hope he can continue to play to this level and that it translates to the next level of play.
Logan Stankoven, C
Drafted 43rd overall in 2021
Currently playing: Kamloops Blazers, WHL
After finishing 3rd in points last year (ahead of Connor Bedard, might I add), Stankoven is currently ranked 16th in scoring. However, that’s while playing 5 games so far. When you look at points per game, Logan actually ranks 2nd at 2.4 points per game with 6-6–12 in 5 games. The Capitals are thrilled with how Logan has progressed since being drafted and are excited for him to take the next step in his professional career.
