Another offseason where Boston does the unexpected

8/6/2021 • Nathan Bon-Bernard

The 2020-21 season was one filled with success and disappointment for the Boston Bruins.  For the second time in 3 years a Bruins captain won the Art Ross trophy and for the first time in franchise history the Bruins won the Presidents Trophy and for the third season in a row the Bruins had a 100+ regular season.  Unfortunately this is where the disappointment comes in because for the third year in a row the Bruins got knocked out in the first round.

Now we come to the offseason where the expansion draft is happening and everyone is wanting to see how all of that goes down.  The Bruins were proactive in making moves so they had control of who they lost, and in the end Phil Kessel was the chosen piece.  He's been great for the Bruins but with his long term deal and cap hit it was a piece that the Bruins were ok with losing.

While the Bruins GM went into the offseason actully expecting to be quiet on the trade market that most certainly did not happen as within the span of a week they made 7 trades.  The biggest surprise of them all was when a player got traded that even the Boston GM said would never be moved as star winger David Pastrnak was traded to the San Jose Sharks and in return the Bruins received the Tkachuk brothers.  It was a return that the Bruins couldnt pass up and it helps solidfy Bruins top 6 for a long time, and itll be exciting to see what the Tkachuks can do this upcoming season with Bruins captain Patrice Bergeron in between them and hopefully that'll help the Bruins finally get over the hump and have a little playoff success.
