Let's dive right into it with the forward group. With 2 of the league's best, the offence shouldnt be a problem this year. Pastrnak got a nice rating bump after a huge year in the nhl and should challenge for some hardware come season's end.
Projected forward lines:
Alex Debrincat - Leon Draisaitl - David Pastrnak
Travis Konecny - Jonathan Toews - Artturi Lehkonen
??? - Dylan Strome - ???
Arthur Kaliyev - Rem Pitlick - ???
The obvious issue with this group is the lack of depth. Vancouver made some moves to give themselves a bit of breathing room cap wise and with a big batch of forwards in this year's free agency, expect Gm Brisson to be active come bidding time. Faceoff circle was a problem for the canucks last year, the team ranked 24th in FO%. Toews and Strome should remedy the situation.
Projected Def pairings:
Moritz Seider - Josh Morrissey
Ryan Mcdonagh - ???
Rasmus sandin - Josh Brown
After moving Chabot for faceoff help, the team has a big hole to fill on the 2nd pairing. Again, this should be taken cared of during free agency. If they cant land a big name def out of the crazyness that is the dchl free agency, resigning Justin Schultz and/or Luke Schenn will be the back up plan.
Goaltending duo:
Jordan Binnington
Pyotr Kochetkov
This is by far the weakest position of this team, JoBinn kept his good but not great rating meaning he'll be trusted with most of the workload. He got the job done last year for the most part but does the organisation really trust him? no not really. There really isnt anything available out there that is any better.
After fixing the Center situation and adding a more defensive def in mcdonagh, the major parts of the lineup are there. The talent is there. Its a wait and see situation on how the team will perform. That will dictate if any moves will be done to acquire a true #1 goaltender.
