Islanders backup Aaron Dell steal the show

Wednesday, January 8th 2020

The Islanders had their up and down so far this season but they are certainly starting the new year on the right foot.  A third straight win bring the Barry Trotz troops into playoff contention and the fan are exited.  Their showing great dedication to their coach and their defensive system.  GM Flax Laplante spoke to the media today.  ''I am very confident with the group we have at the moment and that we can make a strong push for the second half of the season.  We have all our pieces into place and now it is up to the players to make the differance.''  Aaron Dell led by example last night as he stole the show on the road at Prudential Center vs Metro top dog New Jersey Devils.  Captain Jonathan Toews also had a great night with 3 points.  That is very encouraging and it brings a positive energy into the locker room.

The main thing we need to improve for 2020 is our special team.  The Islanders are lacking on that departement and are currently 29th in the league with a low 14% PP conversion rate.  They are also a very disapointing 79% PK conversion for 24th in the league.. We bring those numbers up and we are likely putting chance on our side to win every game.  Barry Trotz showed no panic to the media and explained it takes around 15-20 games for a coach to make an impact and a differance.  Practice will be concentrate stricly on the special teams this morning and also tomorow before hosting the Big Bad Bruins on Saturday.  We were hoping to welcome back and play vs PK Subban but he is on the IR list so he wont be in the Boston formation.  Assistant Captain Claude Giroux said he still speak with Subban and they will go eat together at the Empire Steak House friday night.

We know that we can catch up to all the other teams and we can fight for that playoff spot.  It is just a matter of buying in and make sure we bring a full 60 minutes of play every single night.  I think everybody knows that and everybody in this locker room is ready for that battle.
