All eyes on the Isles

2019-04-07

NEW YORK - 04-06-19

The Islanders have done it! Its a miracle, they beat the Washington Capitals in the season finale to punch a ticket at the last wildcard spot of the 2019 DCHL playoffs.  Caps had Isles number all season long.  They were 3-0 in the matchup reports so that win means alot to this organisation.  Washington was a good team with great management.  I mean miss the playoffs with 102 points? Are you serious?  Thats crazy.  The fans in New York are going crazy in the streets of Brooklyn after their team finaly reach the playoffs.  "I am very excited about this opportunity" GM Flax Laplante added.  ''We worked hard as a team and the results are there to prove it.  This roster is showing alot of character and perseverence during that roller coaster year.  The metropolitan is one of the toughest division in the league so we had to take double bites."   We went from last place to middle of the pack to last place to middle of the pack a couple times during the year.  The competition is very tight and there is no room for mistakes.

TJ Oshie led the team with 104 points and Claude Giroux was a close second with 99 points.  Matt Murray shown he still has it in him with a decent record of 44-19-5.  GM Flax Laplante knew what kind of players he was receiving in return when he made those moves.  Oshie cost a 1st round and Shea Theodore, while Giroux costed two 1st rounds in the past offseason.  Matt Murray was a blockbuster deal with NJ which I do not regret at all.  You need to give to receive.  Not to mention the big blue liner addition at the point in Rasmus Ristolainen.  He is big and strong and can play big minutes with his high endurance.  It cost our greatest asset in Thomas Chabot.  In the end management are very happy with the current result of the season.

The thing about the Stanley Cup playoffs is the first round usualy produces the most compelling hockey.  Maybe it is because after a 6month plus, coaches and fans cant wait for the level of hockey to increase a few more degrees.  Or maybe its because the first round has been a home to upset.  So the Islanders are gonna take the 1st seed in the East which is the Carolina Hurricanes.

Carolina : 60-14-8 (128 points)

New York : 49-28-5 (103 points)

Carolina lead season series 4-0

We know they gave us a hard time during the regular season but it is a differant story in the playoffs.  It is a best out of 7 series so anything is possible.  The time has come to shine on the Island and its starting immediately.  We need to shoot at the puck toward Roberto Luongo.  He is getting old and saggy and very fragile.  We will test him with all kind of offense.  You get the idea.

There is much more to get into in the coming days as far as strenghts, weaknesses, matchups and systems, but this should be one hell of a battle.
